Bursa Malaysia Committed To Raise Awareness On Gender Equality

KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia (Malaysia's Stock Exchange) is committed to raise awareness on gender equality as part of its global initiative under the Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) initiative, says Chief Executive Officer Tajuddin Atan. The SSE initiative is a commitment to promote sustainability performance and transparency in the capital markets. Tajuddin said the exchange would look for ways to enhance and capitalise on the leadership skills of women in the capital market, thus bringing out the potentials of female workers. "Studies had shown that if the top managements, companies or boards were more diverse, they would not only more efficient but also could perform well," he told reporters at the "Ring The Bell For Gender Equality" event held here Friday. He said the event marked another step in Bursa Malaysia's sustainability journey as it strove to be a model for emerging markets in the adoption of global sustainability practices and initiatives. Ring the Bell is an event participated by 34 stock exchanges worldwide to promote gender equality from March 3-11. The event, held in conjunction with the International Women's Day on March 8, highlighted the business case for women's economic empowerment, as well as opportunities for the private sector to advance gender equality and sustainable development. -- BERNAMA
