Cambodia interested in atomic energy development - Rosatom head Kiriyenko

YEKATERINBURG, November 25. /TASS/. Cambodia has expressed an interest in the development of atomic energy industry, including construction of a nuclear power plant in the future, Head of the Russian Atomic Energy State Corporation (Rosatom) Sergei Kiriyenko said on Wednesday. "May be it will be right to start from a research reactor or research centre in Cambodia. The country’s leadership hopes for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the future," Kiriyenko said. In his words, Cambodia plans to start developing the atomic energy sector. "This looks like it was during the recent meeting between the presidents of Russia and Bolivia, Vladimir Putin and Evo Morales, with whom we now sing a memorandum to the effect. A whole range of countries are doing right steps to start developing the ‘grand’ atomic energy industry. They are starting from the setting up of infrastructure, training of personnel and constructing of research and science centres," he said. "So, in Bolivia we are starting from the creation of a research centre, research reactor," Kiriyenko said, adding, "We signed the first memorandum with Cambodia." Read more
