Candidates for Bangkok governor election continue canvassing for votes

BANGKOK, Feb 10 (TNA) - As election for Bangkok governor is only 20 days away, candidates on Sunday continued wooing for votes from eligible voters in the Thai capital while people were celebrating the Chinese New Year. Former police chief Police. Gen. Seripisut Temiyavej told people who were exercising inside Rama IX Park on the outskirts of Bangkok that he would extend the opening and closing time of the popular park and build a bicycle lane if he is elected city governor. Kosit Suvinit, another candidate contesting the election independently, who was also canvassing for votes at the park accidently told people that he would improve the scenery at the park so that it would become a holiday hub in the capital, if elected. The two candidates later agreed to hold a joint press conference, aimed at urging the Bangkokians to cast votes for candidates who are running in the election not under any political banner. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra travelled to Thon Buri side which is across the Chao Phraya River to help garner votes for Pol. Gen. Pongsapat Pongcharoen, a former deputy national police chief who is contesting under her ruling Pheu Thai Party. She urged Thais of Chinese descent to cast their votes on the election day which is on March 3. Ex-prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the major opposition Democrat Party, said his party would present policies different to other candidates so that eligible voters could decide whether they should vote for former Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra again this time. Among the major policies offered by the party are building five routes of monorail public transport system and an installation of over 20,000 surveillance cameras for safety of people, especially at night time.
