China's experts survey high speed rail in Thailand
BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - China has sent experts and government officials to survey construction sites of Thailand's two high-speed rail projects, one links Bangkok with the northern resort Chiang Mai province and the other connects Bangkok with the northeastern Nong Khai province bordering Laos.
Thai Deputy Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, who met the visiting Chinese delegation on Friday, told journalists that the Chinese team is conducting a feasibility study on the two newly- proposed high-speed rail projects in Thailand, as China is one of prospective investors to build the two high-speed mass rail transit systems.
Apart from China, South Korea and Japan have also shown their interest in the development of the two new high-speed train systems in Thailand. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has announced that her government is, however, considering all offers for the best sake of public and national interests.
According to the deputy transport minister, the Thai government, through his ministry, will likely sign a contract for the construction of the new high-speed train systems by next year. (TNA)
