Commerce holds Thai-Iranian trade talks

BANGKOK, Jan 23 (TNA) -- The Commerce Ministry has organised a Thai-Iranian trade talks, where Thai products would be exported to Iran ahead of the Iranian New Yea in March worth well over 13 million US dollars. Commerce Minister Ms Apiradi Tantraporn said that her ministry, through the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and office of the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) in Tehran have led an entourage of 13 companies from the Kish Free Tax Zone in Iran for talks on trade in Thailand, especially on fashion and lifestyle with over 60 Thai entrepreneurs present during the talks on January 19 at the Centara Grand at Central World. The meeting had concluded with a trade deal worth 13 million US dollars, divided into an immediate sales of more than 3 million US dollars, while the rest or 10 million US dollars would be ordered within a year. Products extremely interested by the Iranians include canned corns, gems and jewelry, children clothing, handcrafted products, house decoration items, wood furniture, kitchen tools particularly those made from plastic, and canned fruits. The minister said the talks between Thailand and Iran was carried out under the immediate proactive export policy of the ministry, where products and services are pushed to meet the demands of the Middle Eastern markets, while targeting for Thai products to be exported into Iran to be sold during the Iranian New Year or Norooz at the end of March. The minister noted that the success of the activity would help increase the trade value between Thai and Iran by at least 5 per cent. DITP Director-general Ms Malee Choklumlerd, meanwhile, said apart from export success, the meeting would also help strengthen business partnership between both countries. (TNA)
