Commerce Ministry prepares strategy to increase fruit quality

BANGKOK, Feb 3 (TNA) -- Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong has mapped out a strategy for upgrade of fruit quality and management of fruit produce, which will be released to the market in March. The plan will be forwarded to the cabinet retreat in Chanthaburi next week. The ministry believes this year will be the golden year for Thai agricultural products. Mr Sontirat said that he will forward the Fruit City strategy, laid out by his ministry to the cabinet retreat in Chanthaburi next week. The plan will be the country’s main strategy for improvement of Thai fruit quality and fruit produce management such as durians, longans and mangosteens. Both short-term and long-term plans will add values of Thai fruit both in domestic and overseas markets, he said. The Minister expects that there will be no problems of oversupply for durians and mangosteens this year as the fruits are in high demand by Chinese markets. A strong demand for Thai fruit also remains in other countries.(TNA)
