Commerce Ministry is promoting organic farm products internationally

BANGKOK, Nov 9 (TNA) -- The Commerce Ministry is actively promoting organic farm products as they are gradually popular in the international market while developing farmers and producers to international standards. Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said her ministry was encouraging all concerned parties to increase the value of organic products by 20%. At present the market value of organic products stands at 2.7 billion baht. Provincial commerce officials are training farmers and producers to meet market demand and international standards of organic products. Officials also encourage them to seek certification for their products and tell stories behind their products. They are also assisted in product design and marketing. These were for the value addition, the minister said. Commerce officials were arranging for organic product shelves at department stores and the fairs of the products including Southeast Asia’s biggest fair of organic and natural products planned in Thailand mid next year, Mrs Apiradi said. “The business of organic products is likely to grow considerably because they are safe food… The Commerce Ministry is promoting not only organic rice but also organic vegetables and cattle. The international community places much importance on organic products and all markets of organic products are growing by more than 10%,” she said. (TNA)
