Construction of Thai-Sino high speed railway to start next week

BANGKOK, Dec 14 (TNA) – The first phase construction of Thai-Chinese high speed railway project is set to start on Dec 21 for the 3.5 kilometre section of the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima rail route. Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said about the progress of the Thai -Chinese rail development project that under the first phase, the construction of the 3.5-kilometre section from Klang Dong station to Pang Asok station in Nakhon Ratchasima province will kick off on Dec 21 and Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha will preside over the ceremony to begin the construction. The Minister said he ordered the Department of Highways to complete track raising for track laying and surfacing work within six months. Now, the Thai-Chinese working committee is accelerating the construction designs of the rest three phases to ensure continuity of the construction, which is expected to completed within four years. The Cabinet approved the 253-km high speed train project, linking Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima in July 2017. The construction will be done under four phases and is set to cost around 179 billion baht. When finished, it will be Thailand’s high speed railway. (TNA)
