Corporate & Public Sectors Need To Help Malaysians Reach Full Potential - Minister Yeo
KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- The corporate and public sectors need to help the peopl reach their full potential in order to build a better country and a prosperous economy, Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin said.
She cited United Nations’ eighth secretary-general Ban Ki Moon as saying that the world cannot be the best it could be, if half of the population do not reach their full potential.
“Do not outsource nation building to only the ministers. It is not only about government although it tries to build a better and stronger nation, it is also about all Malaysians and what story they want to tell the new generation.
“Corporate people could also do their bit as they are also more powerful than the politicians. They could empower the economy and create jobs, hence, are able to make a difference to the world.
“Invest in Malaysia and do the best you can," she said during a panel session of the EcoWorld Women's Summit 2019 themed "Reimagining Malaysia, Reshaping Future Workforce", here Friday.
EcoWorld Malaysia director Noor Faridah Mohd Ariffin, in her keynote address, said the country has made some headway but it could do more and must do more to encourage women participation in order to balance for better.
"Any workforce with equal participation can leverage different experiences and perspectives," she said.
EcoWorld Malaysia president and chief executive officer Chang Khim Wah said as the people strive towards balance, it is important to acknowledge that both men and women wear different hats at work and home.
Hence, he said responsible employers must recognise this and create the means that allow people to excel at whatever role they play.
"Gender equality and a balanced world does not mean preferential treatment. It means men and women are supporting each other," he added.
