Cybersecurity Malaysia Teams Up With Scope International To Enhance Cyber Security Ecosystem

BUKIT JALIL (Kuala Lumpur), Sept 22 (Bernama) -- CyberSecurity Malaysia, an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, has teamed up with Scope International Malaysia Bhd to further develop the country's cyber security ecosystem. Scope International is the global shared service centre for British multinational banking group Standard Chartered Bank. Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding of understanding (MoU) agreeing to develop the cyber security talent in the country through national level initiatives, cyber threat intelligence and forensic knowledge sharing and educate the public on themes centred around cyber safety. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Madius Tangau said the MoU attested the government commitment towards public-private partnership as both parties would benefit from the collaboration. "The outline of the MoU is to establish a framework for cooperation in cyber security research and development, information sharing, training, awareness and talent development," he said at the signing ceremony here Thursday. With the MoU, he said both parties would develop a focused cooperation, which included conducting research and development, information sharing in the area of cyber security threat intelligence and forensics, and conducting awareness and training campaigns related to cyber threats and measures to be taken to be cyber safe. Madius said both parties would also cooperate in developing the next generation of cyber talent through partnership with institutions of higher learning. "This is a great opportunity for the local talent to learn from the world-class experts. "They will not only learn about engineering skills but will also be able to learn the working culture, mindset, process, policy, procedure and all the good practices," he added. Scope International chief executive officer Matthew Norris said Standard Chartered viewed information and cyber security as a core requirement in achieving its digital aspiration and placed great importance in ensuring that the services delivered were undertaken in a safe and secure manner. "Standard Chartered continues to invest in developing talent and maturing process and technology capabilities in order to protect our assets, safeguard the interest of our customers and stakeholders, as well as to meet regulatory obligations for information and cyber security," he added. Since its inception in 2001, Scope International has grown to become Standard Chartered centre of excellence, providing dedicated world-class technology support services, banking operations, customer care and information and cyber security capabilities across the bank's global footprint. The company currently employs over 5,000 people in Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
