Department of Airports ready for Songkran traffic

BANGKOK, March 29 (TNA) -- The Department of Airports prepares its 28 airports nationwide to serve an increasing number of travelers during the Songkran Thai New Year festival mid next month. Darun Saengchai, director-general of the department, said the preparation was intended to facilitate travelers during April 11 and 17. He expected traffic at the department’s provincial airports to rise by 7 per cent from 320,000 people during the festival last year to 336,000 people this year. The airport will serve 256 international flights and 2,582 domestic flights on the upcoming Songkran holidays. The preparation for Songkran includes more PR officials to give advice to travelers, enough benches and transport buses for passengers, clean passenger terminals, and around-the-clock security measures. Airport officials would conduct exercises for efficient responses to emergency situations and visitors would be asked to report any suspicious findings at the airport, Mr Darun said. (TNA)
