Deputy PM calls urgent meeting with economic team

BANGKOK, April 9 (TNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak convened a meeting today with the country's economic team to gauge the impact of the trade disputes being waged between the US and China. The deputy premier met with the representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Thailand and the Stock Exchange of Thailand to asses the fallout from the vicious trade disputes between the US and China. After listening to the viewpoints of each department and reviewing all details Mr Somkid was reportedly assured that the country would not be directly impacted. The consensus of the meeting was that being a small country with a strong domestic policy, means that Thailand is well equipped to weather global economic turbulence far better than much larger nations because we can adapt much quicker. It was revealed that at present the country was enjoying a strong surge of government investment and investor confidence which the economic team felt will allow the economy to meet the 4% projections for growth this year. Mr Somkid stated in the meting that the country had just come through a terrible period of economic and political turmoil which was one of the lowest points in the country's history. This has given the Thai people the strength and resilience to overcome any obstacles which will help the country move ahead with confidence despite all of the troubles. (TNA)
