Deputy PM says EEC has started, being accelerated
BANGKOK, Jan 29 (TNA) -- New laws will be passed and more projects will be implemented to support the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) that will be a new investment magnet, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said.
The EEC was developed especially to attract investment in digital businesses that formed a mega trend, Mr Somkid said in a seminar on Thailand 4.0 and industrial and technological development at Plaza Athenee Hotel.
New electric and conventional trains, roads and investment facilitations were being accelerated to support the new development region and the present government would be spending every minute of its tenure to develop the EEC, he said.
“Many countries want to invest in ASEAN as it has teamed up with India, China, Russia and Japan. So, Thailand must grab the opportunities,” Mr Somkid said. Thailand had Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore as its major competitors in the investment attraction, he commented.
Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana said the EEC would be a large-scaled production base for electric vehicles, robots and processed foods for specific groups of consumers among others. The local production would also help the country save its costs for the import of such products, he said. (TNA)
