Deputy PM Somkid seriously invites Chinese investors to EEC

SHENZHEN, June 27 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak visited Hong Kong and Shenzhen to invite Chinese investors to targeted industries under the government’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) scheme. Mr Somkid’s delegation included deputy foreign and industry ministers and representatives of the Board of Investment. They were set to be in Hong Kong and Shenzhen on June 27-30 to attract Chinese investment to the Thai government’s flagship EEC. The delegation was in Shenzhen on June 27 and met executives of Foxconn which produces electronic products, China National GeneBank (CNGB) and UBTECH Co which manufactures service robots. In the evening Mr Somkid was set to meet Hong Kong Governor Carrie Lam to discuss cooperation expansion. He would propose Hong Kong use Thailand as its gateway to neighbouring countries and Thailand have Hong Kong as a base to expand its foreign trade. China is the second biggest investor in Thailand, after Japan. In the first quarter of this year, China invested 2.86 billion baht, mainly in metal and machinery industries, transport equipment, services, public utilities, and light industries in the East.
