Developing sea salt for export
PHETCHABURI, March 3 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives plans to develop sea salt for export to the world market and for making artificial rain with an aim to boost income for sea salt farmers, said Deputy Minister Wiwat Salyakamthorn.
Speaking to journalists after visiting Phetchaburi Thai Sea Salt Farming Cooperatives in Phetchaburi province, Mr Wiwat said his ministry plans to further develop Thai sea salt so that it can become a major export product for Thailand.
Concerned agencies will find ways to reduce production costs and to also raising standards so that sea salt could be used for several purposes such as in making artificial rain, he said.
The ministry will ask for cooperation from various sectors in improving sea salt production to raise income for the farmers, he said.
Sea salt farming in Phetchaburi province totals 32,000 rai. The cooperatives has altogether 261 members. (TNA)
