Doha Hosts Second Corporate Governance Conference in October

Doha, September 25 (QNA) - Doha will host the second conference on corporate governance held by Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) as part of the IOSCO World Investor Week, in cooperation with Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance. The event will be held from October 2 to 4. The conference will attract international financial and economic speakers from international organizations, universities, experts and specialists. Director of Media and Communication Department at Qatar Financial Markets Authority Ahmad Salem Sultan, said at a press conference held today to unveil the details of the conference that the second conference on corporate governance was held as part of Qatar Securities Co's celebration with the Organization of Global Financial Markets with World Investor Week. He pointed out that Qatar Financial Markets Authority, in cooperation with Hawkamah Center, has organized corporate governance conferences as part of its efforts to spread corporate governance culture and to exchange views and experiences on the implementation of the new corporate governance law, which was issued last year and came into force in May this year. Sultan added that the conference will be held over three days and will attract speakers from major international capitals such as Washington, London, Paris and Oslo, as well as speakers from the Sultanate of Oman and Doha. The conference will also be attended by heads of financial market regulators from Morocco, Algeria and Oman. Sultan pointed out that the conference, which will last for three days, will include important workshops on stock split, reporting skills and business ethics in the financial markets, as well as a workshop on combating money laundering and terrorist financing in the financial markets. He stressed that the conference is gaining importance year after year in light of the importance of applying the principles of corporate governance, which led the listed companies in Qatar Stock Exchange to submit an annual report on their governance processes. Participants in the conference sessions and specialized workshops will discuss a range of topics related to corporate governance practices at the local and international levels, as well as skills in writing corporate governance reports. The reduction of face value of shares or stock split will also be included in a special awareness workshop, as well as a workshop on combating money laundering in financial markets. The conference and the accompanying events coincide with the introduction of the corporate governance system and the legal statements included in the main market issued by (QFMA). The provisions of this law require listed companies and legal entities to make structural changes in their business style, introduce independent members of the boards, and shifting to a pattern of detailed reporting rather than the old methodology.
