Dozen more major factories to be set up in Thailand

BANGKOK, August 17 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Industry has given the green light to 12 large-scale factories, with a combined investment of more than 15 billion baht, to be set up in upcountry in the near future, mostly in the Thai North and Northeast. Permanent Secretary for Industry Vitoon Simachokedee, in his capacity as chairman of a scrutiny committee on issuing business licences to some categories of factories which could affect people’s quality of life and environment, told reporters on Saturday that the approvals were given on August 15 at the committee's latest meeting. Vitoon assessed that the 12 newly-approved factories should create about 5,500 new jobs in Thailand, saying that several plants to be set up are those solar cell and bio-mass powered electricity generating plants.
