DSI seizes luxury cars in tax evasion scam

BANGKOK, Jan 20 (TNA) -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) seized high-end vehicles in a raid at a company suspected of illegally importing luxury cars to evade tax. JMW Motor Company in Bangkok’s Lad Krabang district allegedly imported luxury cars but intentionally failed to declare to the authorities. Like many importers, the company appeared to falsely report of importing auto parts subject to much lower taxes. Officials found only foreign workers inside the company but Thai employee showed up later during the raid. DSI have charged the company of forgery, money-laundering and falsifying statements. They later raided the house of company owner and seized some documents. The officials found that JWM Motor is one of at least five companies who illegally imported or assembled luxury cars in the Kingdom without proper licensing. JWM Motor is linked to a 2013 fire on luxury vehicles while being transported in Nakhon Ratchasima; an incident that unmasked this tax evasion scam. (TNA)
