Employment rate in Oct rises 2.45%

BANGKOK, Nov 17 (TNA) – Thailand’s employment rate in Oct increased 2.45 per cent year-on-year and about 110,000 Thai workers overseas send 1.25 billion baht back to Thailand, said the Ministry of Labour. According to Deputy Permanent Secretary for Labour, Ms Petcharat Sinauy, the Social Security Office’s information showed that about 10.69 million people were employed in the system in Oct, up 2.45 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, the National Statistical Office (NSO) reported that 1.3 per cent of all 37 million working-age population were unemployed last month, up 30,000 people, compared to the same period last year. Looking into employment in industries, overall employment has improved except textile and auto production industries, which business shutdown and lay-off can be seen. The labour situation in overseas markets in 2017, he said the Employment Department sent 114,958 Thai people to work overseas from Oct 2016 to September 2017. They sent home 1.25 billion baht during this period. Most of them or 80,186 people went to work in Asia, including 35,263 people to Taiwan. Those 16,540 people were employed in the Middle East and 10,707 others in Europe. (TNA)
