Enforcement of new standardized helmets for motorcyclists in Thailand takes effect
BANGKOK, May 28 (TNA) - The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) announces that the law enforcement of a new standardized anti-knock helmets used by riders of motorcycles across Thailand has already been taken effect on producers, importers and sellers, with those found violating the new law to be jailed or fined or both.
TISI Secretary-General Apichin Jotikasathira told journalists of the update on Monday, after chairing a meeting of relevant authorities tasked with enforcing the new law.
The TISI chief stated that the law enforcement of the new TISI-369-2557 standard, which is equivalent to the European ECER22 standard, of all locally-produced and imported helmets sold to motorcyclists and pillion riders took effect on August 28, 2017, after a one year-compromising period.
The TISI chief, thus, warned producers, importers and sellers of all anti-knock helmets to strictly comply with the new law, while all motorcyclists to always buy only the new standardized-helmets for themselves and their pillion riders for the sake of their safety.
According to TISI, violators of the new law will be taken legal action decisively, including a two-year jail term or a one million baht-fine each for producers and importers or both, while sellers who violate the new law will face a one month-jail term or a fine of 5,000-50,000 baht each or both, or who show the new TISI-369-2557 standard of helmets, replacing the outdated TISI369-2539 standard, without any official license, will face a three month-jail term or a fine of 100,000-1,000,000 each or both.
