Examination of oil slicks on Hua Hin Beach

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, THAILAND, October 28 (TNA) - The Pollution Control Department, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, says it expects to conclude its ongoing examination into oil slicks collected from the Hua Hin Beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province in the Upper Thai South within a week. Pollution Control Department Deputy Director-General Sunee Piyapanpong told journalists on Wednesday that her staff have collected samples of oil slicks from a tarnished section of about 12 kilometers on the Hua Hin Beach, while an initial laboratory test result should be known within a few days to gauge the level of contamination. Besides, Sunee anticipated, Prachuap Khiri Khan authorities would need at least about a week to find a source of the oil slicks and, at this moment, the Hua Hin Beach has been closed for a clean-up since October 27. According to the senior official, many relevant agencies, including the military and environmental agencies, are taking part in the clean-up task to remove oil slicks and petroleum-coated garbage covering the 10-kilometer-long section of the Hua Hin Beach.
