Finance minister accepts digital currencies

BANGKOK, Feb 7 (TNA) -- Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong welcomes investment in cryptocurrencies and has ordered the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to draft a law to regulate it. It was impossible to block investment in cryptocurrencies and the government would find ways to ensure proper investment in them, Mr Apisak said. The SEC was drafting a law to govern investment in cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings and the draft should take a clear shape in a month, the finance minister said. He assigned the SEC to handle the matter. The SEC would have a proper law to supervise the investment in order to prevent money laundering through cryptocurrencies, he said. Money laundering with digital currencies already happened in China, Mr Apisak said. (TNA)
