First EV charging station opens in Thailand
BANGKOK, August 2 (TNA) - Thailand has opened its first electric vehicle charging station (EV charging station) for the public in an effort to encourage the use of electrical vehicles in Thailand and to reduce emissions that contribute to global warming.
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) Thursday opened an electric vehicle charging station, the first in Thailand, at its headquarters on Ploenjit Road in Bangkok.
The MEA also plans to open nine more EV stations in Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi provinces within next year. The stations will offer services including a quick charge at 20-30 minutes and a home charging system to fully charge a vehicle in 6-8 hours.
Electric vehicles do not emit polluting gas and their energy cost is low compared with oil. Expert believe that more people will opt for such cars should their prices in Thailand be lowered from the current over 2 million to around 1 million baht. (TNA)
