The Shah Gas Development Project, owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Gas Development Company, won Project of the Year, as it seeks to exploit approximately 6.1 tcm (220 tcf) of proven gas reserves from the Shah gas field. The Total Abu Al Bukhoosh Academy received the Local Content Development of the Year award for the training of young Emiratis and building their capacity with technical skills relevant to the emirate's oil and gas industry. The Research and Development of the Year award recognised Partex Oil and Gas, a company fully owned by Portuguese non-profit entity the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation that redirects much of its revenue into research and development. Petrofac Emirates, which has picked up a raft of major engineering, procurement and construction contracts in both Abu Dhabi's onshore and offshore sectors, picked up the EPC of the Year award. The Oil '&' Gas Year Abu Dhabi 2013 features key stakeholders in the nation's hydrocarbons industry from both the public and private sectors. Minister of Energy Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei has honoured this edition with his comments on the future of Abu Dhabi's oil industry. The report also features the general manager and chief representative for BP UAE, Abdulkarim Al Mazmi; the general manager of JODCO, Yosuke Ueda; and Shell's outgoing Abu Dhabi Country Chair, John Barry. The Oil '&' Gas Year Abu Dhabi 2013 provides an in-depth analysis of the potential impact of enhanced oil recovery in the emirate's upstream oil industry and discusses opportunities for the country's growth and the challenges that lie ahead. These issues include the difficulties facing oil and gas companies when looking for qualified personnel to fill their ranks, as well as the technically demanding pursuit of Abu Dhabi's sour gas reserves. Abu Dhabi has the world's seventh largest oil and gas reserves and its hydrocarbons wealth has given it a GDP per capita of US$109,000. In The Oil '&' Gas Year Abu Dhabi 2013, the director general of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi, has said the emirate would not rest on its laurels. "ADNOC seeks to constantly upgrade its exploration and production and refining infrastructure," Al Suwaidi said. "Crude oil output is expected to rise to 3.5 million barrels of oil per day by 2017. In the gas industry, Abu Dhabi was able to successfully overcome the challenges related to developing the first unconventional sour gas field. The Shah Gas field is expected to start production by late 2014, adding to the overall gas supplies in Abu Dhabi. However, there is no doubt that the oil and gas industry will continue to face some challenges amid changing consumer trends and fluctuations in global markets. This requires new strategies and skills, as the role of key players in the global energy market develops."
