Fruit sales along Thai border on the rise
CHANTABURI, June 7 (TNA) - Purchase orders for Thai fruits from neighbouring Cambodia and Vietnam through Chantaburi Province in the Thai East have surged to over 1,000 tons a day although their prices are more expensive than those of previous years.
Chantaburi's Thai-Cambodian border trade and tourism association reported on Friday that the increasing purchase orders for Thai fruits from Cambodia and Vietnam since early this month have earned the eastern Thai province more than 20 million baht a day, higher than previous years.
According to the provincial association, popular Thai fruits for the Cambodian and the Vietnamese markets include mangosteens and durians although the prices of Thai durians per kilogram this year are about 20 baht higher than those of last year.
The association acknowledged, however, there is now a short of supply of Thai durians for the Cambodian and Vietnamese markets, as the Thai fruits were earlier bought from local orchards in large quantities for shipping to China and other overseas markets. (TNA)
