Gas turbine power station to be built in Aktobe region

Aktobe, 07 January 2008, (Khabar) - Construction of the second gas turbine power station with a capacity of 120 megawatts is to be launched in March this year in the city of Kandyagash in the Aktobe region. A related memorandum on the project implementation was signed by the regional administration and the administration of a Chinese company. The construction of the first gas turbine power station with a capacity of 45 megawatts is soon to be finished in Kandyagash. The new power generating unit is expected to supply additional electricity to larger enterprises of the Mugalzhar district and a railway site lining Kandyagash and Makat. It is also expected that with the introduction of a new gas turbine power plant, electricity tariffs will drop. The new facility is also to employ close to 200 people. The new gas turbine power station will be erected by a Chinese company which has extensive experience in this field, with the plant to be commissioned in 2011. This will be the first investment project in the region which is based on a state and private partnership. The major share of financing, which is almost 40 million US dollars, will be invested by the Chinese interests.

Yeleusin Sagyndykov, Aktobe regional governor:
- We are on the verge of finishing the project. We have almost defined all the features of the Kandyagash gas turbine power plant project. The 200 million US dollar plant’s capacity will be 120 megawatts. The Aktobe regional administration is a participant in the project. The first 30 millions were given immediately to boost construction.
