German energy company hopeful about Turkey's future

KAYSERI (A.A) - June 14, 2011 - A Germany-based energy group said on Tuesday that it was optimistic about future of Turkey's economy.
Willem Schoeber, Executive Board President of EWE Energy, which acts within the body of Germany-based EWE Group, said they have positive views about future of Turkey when they take into consideration dynamic developments of Turkish companies Bursagas, Kayserigas and EWW Naturalgas.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, Schoeber said they were pleased over making business with Turkey which was rather dynamic. He said Turkish economy continued to develop in the recent years despite the global crisis.
Schoeber said EWE Energy has been serving to around 750,000 subscribers thanks to their presence in western province of Bursa and Central Anatolian province of Kayseri with the local distribution companies.
He said they had 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas volume in total, noting EWE Natural gas sold 800 million cubic meters of natural gas last year.
Schoeber said Turkey was a rising country, adding they thought energy demand would increase in the next years together with welfare level.
Referring to future targets of EWE in Turkey, Schoeber said renewable energy was at the infancy level in Turkey. He said although there were many opportunities in this sector, it required high costs. "EWE will assess this alternative. The company will conclude strategy process in the next few months," he noted.
Schoeber said they bought majority shares of the their associated companies in Turkey, and noted that an interface has been formed between Turkey and Germany with respect to cooperation after establishment of EWE Energy.
EWE Naturalgas started its operations in July 2009.
