German OPEL auto manufacturing plant still active

Tehran, Dec 9, IRNA – The official representative of German OPEL auto manufacturing plant says the plant has not been closed, adding that only one of the production lines in Bochum city has stopped production due to old equipment and machinery. Saeed Zarepour further remarked that a report published by the German news agency in recent days has been erroneously translated by some sectors of the Iranian media and misinterpreted. He said the production line which is located in Bochum had been operational for 52 years and produced scores of older models of OPEL and the German auto manufacturing plant has only closed down this production line. Noting that closure of this production line has been wrongly interpreted by the Iranian media as bankruptcy, he said at present the German auto manufacturer has 42 production lines in four continents and 30 countries of the world. Zarepour stressed that the German OPEL auto company produces 1.1 million cars per year and makes an income of $15 billion annually and is one of the influential companies in German economy. He said with regard to the low output of the old production line since three years ago negotiations got underway for the closure of the line and finally last week upon approval of the directors and shareholders the activity of the line located in North Rhine-Westphalia state was halted. He said unfortunately the wrong translation of the report has caused concern of many OPEL consumers in Iran. He urged the media to be more careful in using reports.
