Giant Aims Double-Digit Growth In 2016

Nurul Hanis Izmir KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the owner of Giant, hopes to secure a double-digit revenue growth this year following the hypermarket and retailer chain’s renewed and improved customer shopping experience. General Merchandising Director Lee Siew Mei said about 50 per cent of the growth would be mainly contributed by a dedicated baby promotional fair, attracting mothers aged 35 and above. "Looking at our customer profile, we notice that most of our customers are women who have between two and four children, and we understand their needs, especially that of working mothers. "Thus, we have introduced a one-stop centre since last year to enable mothers to buy baby products such as diapers, milk powders, toiletries and clothes and the response was encouraging," she told Bernama. Describing the baby fair as a gold event for the hypermarket, she said it is conducted four times a year, namely in February, May, July and December. "We are also working closely with suppliers to come out with exclusive items to complement their products. "For instance, if a mother purchases a milk powder product above US$12.40 (RM50) in a single receipt, she is entitled to get free baby food," she said, adding that this exclusivity is applicable in all Giant stores nationwide to attract more customers. "This enables our customers a more convenience experience when they shop with us," she said. Lee said moving forward, Giant is exploring the digital platform to better serve its customers. With number of customers of between 2.3 million to 2.5 million, Giant provides delivery services for shoppers who live within five km from its hypermarket. GCH, which also owns Cold Storage, Mercato and Jasons Food Hall, runs 145 stores nationwide. (US$1 = RM4.03) -- BERNAMA
