Government, private sector join forces for marketing promotion of Thai fruits
BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Commerce is taking the lead in a plan to have the private sector and the government join forces to formulate a strategy to promote Thai fruit exports.
Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade Boonyarit Kalayanamit said that a meeting of the committee in charge of strategic fruit trade was convened on March 30 which was chaired by Minister of Commerce Sontirat Sontijirawong.
The committee was made up of government departments such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology and private sector representatives from the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai Fresh Fruit Traders and Exporters Association.
The purpose of the meeting was to steer a path to promote Thai tropical fruit trade.
Four main objectives were set which including the plan to establish Thailand as the leader of tropical fruit and processed fruit trade, to establish Thai fruit export prices as the global standard for tropical fruit trade, to ensure Thailand holds the largest global market share for international tropical fruits and to establish Thailand's reputation as the premier tropical fruit supplier in the global market.
Accordingly, four sub-committees have been setup and tasked with achieving the stated goals. (TNA)
