Govt's Efforts To Promote ASEAN Brings Positive Changes

MELAKA (Malaysia), Nov 21 (Bernama) -- The government's efforts to promote ASEAN through various medium, including programmes organised by the Information Department, are capable of bringing positive changes the development and progress of the community, economy, mentality and bilateral relations among member countries. Science, Technology and Innovation Deputy Minister Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said adequate exposure on ASEAN neighbouring countries was important for Malaysia to move in tandem and not left behind by other member countries. "A developing country like Malaysia cannot be alone. Instead, we need the support and cooperation from other ASEAN countries to be able to compete with them. "Most important, the close relations among the 10 ASEAN member countries is capable of opening opportunities for employment, trade and business to boost economic growth in the region," he told reporters after closing the ASEAN@Community programme at Pantai Puteri, here, Sunday. He said Malaysians should at least have basic knowledge on various aspects, including lifestyle, customs and culture of the people in neighbouring countries. Organised by Information Department, the ASEAN@Community programme under the ASEAN@Yourfingertips package, offers simple, concise and easy method to recognise the ASEAN countries. -- BERNAMA
