Greentech Confident Of Exceeding Business Leads Target Of RM1.5 Billion
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech) is optimistic of surpassing its business leads target of RM1.5 billion (US$362.7 million) at the 7th International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2016).
Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Hadri Haris, said IGEM 2015 had surpassed the target of RM1.2 billion (RM290.16 million) by generating RM1.98 billion (US$478.81 million) in business leads.
"We are optimistic of surpassing the target this year. Looking at the vibrancy of business today, we might get about the same figure as last year or more with increased business opportunities from the ASEAN region," he told reporters after the launch of IGEM 2016, Thursday.
He said the business leads encompassed the memoranda of understanding being signed at the event, various business opportunities that will connect investors and entrepreneurs, as well as the growth of green technology.
Themed "Green Business for Sustainability", the four-day exhibition, which spans Green Energy, Green Transport, Green Building, Waste Technology and Management and Water Technology and Management, has attracted the participation of leading green corporation from 30 countries.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water and co-organised by GreenTech, a platform to promote the growth of the green technology sector.
Meanwhile, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Maximus Johnity Ongkili said with a solid track record of RM8 billion in business leads since its inception in 2010, IGEM was the ideal platform for green businesses looking to expand their geographical footprint into Malaysia and the region.
"I am positive that the global emphasis on green technology sector will lead to multitudes of collaborations and exponential growth in the green sphere," said Ongkili.
He also said Malaysia had reinforced its commitment and pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emission intensity of gross domestic product by 45 per cent by 2030.
Malaysia had cut its carbon emission intensity to 30 per cent compared to 32 per cent last year to help tackle climate change and global warming, he added.
