Handicrafts Worth $250,000 Exported From N. Khorasan Province

Bojnourd, March 5, IRNA – Deputy Handicrafts Head of North Khorassan Province Head Office for Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism, Ali Abedi, said here Monday handicrafts worth 250,000 dollars were exported from N. Khorassan province this (Iranian) year (ending March 20). Abedi added in an interview with IRNA Monday evening, ˈExporting the handicrafts produced by the craftsmen and craftswomen of the province are exported by merchants of neighboring provinces. He added, ˈDue to the lack of required apparatuses in North Khorasan province most of the manufacturers of handicrafts deliver their products to the merchants of the neighboring provinces. The provincial cultural official said, ˈIf the required infrastructures for exports of the provinceˈs handicrafts would be provided the value of the provinceˈs crafts people would be several-fold increased. Abedi added, ˈPresently in North Khorassan province 15,000 people are actively producing handicrafts in 33 different fields, most of which in weaving industry, mainly those woven on wooden frames, needle works, hand-woven textiles, wood ware, and leather works.ˈ On the moves made by his affiliated Head Office aimed at direct export of the handicrafts of North Khorasan province, he said, ˈAs of the beginning of the current (Iranian) year (March 20th, 2012), there have been good expert level meetings among the officials of the concerned organs aimed at elimination of the existing problems in this field.ˈ The Deputy Handicrafts Head of North Khorasan Province Head Office for Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism said, ˈThis (Iranian) year (1391) as a first step towards direct exports of the provinceˈs handicrafts the active merchants of the province working in this field were identified.ˈ Iranˈs North Khorasan province is home for various Iranian tribes, like the Turkmen, the Turks, the Farses, and the Tats, each producing handicrafts of their own tribes./end
