Hitachi Wins Railway Project in Taiwan

Tokyo, June 21 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Hitachi Ltd. <6501> said Tuesday that the firm, together with its two partners, has received an order for a railway construction project in Taiwan for 33.9 billion New Taiwan dollars in total. The partners are Ansaldo STS SpA, Hitachi's Italian subsidiary acquired last year, and Taiwanese construction company RSEA Engineering Corp. Among the total order from the New Taipei City Government Department of Rapid Transit System, the Italian railway signal system producer will take 8.4 billion New Taiwan dollars. The all-new railway in New Taipei will have a total length of 14.29 kilometers and 12 stations. It is slated to be constructed between later this year and 2023. Hitachi will design and manufacture 58 train cars, while Ansaldo STS will supply the whole railway system. END
