Hotels, hostels on Khao San Road offer discounts for mourners of late Thai King

BANGKOK, October 27 (TNA) - Hotels and guesthouses on Khao San Road, backpacker havens in Bangkok’s historic area, offer 10-50 per cent discounts for mourners from across the country who will travel to pay their respects to the royal urn of late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Sa-nga Ruangwattanakul, advisor to the association of Khao San business operators, told journalists on Thursday that 15 owners of hotels and hostels on Khao San Road have agreed to give the 10-50 per cent discounts so far until the end of November 2016, making the room rates in the area drop to 490-1,500 baht a night. Sa-nga said the owners of hotels and hostels on Khao San Road have also expressed their willingness to extend their discount period later. Besides, special promotional programs will be offered to their clients such as free transport service to Sanam Luang ceremonial ground near the Grand Palace. Khao San Road is popular for its budget accommodations for international backpackers and it is located within a walking distance from the Grand Palace, where the royal urn of the late and beloved Thai monarch is seated.
