Hyundai Heavy wins US$1.1 bln deal for container ships

SEOUL, July 9 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's largest shipyard, said Thursday that it has secured a US$1.1 billion deal to build nine container vessels. Under the contract with Denmark-based Maersk Line, Hyundai Heavy will deliver the 14,000-TEU vessels by the end of 2017, the company said in a statement. The deal includes an option to build eight more ships, Hyundai Heavy said. Earlier this month, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., another South Korean shipbuilder, clinched a $1.8 billion order to build 11 large-sized container vessels with Maersk Line. sam@yna.co.kr (END)
