Increased bus fares in Thailand set on April 22
BANGKOK, April 11 (TNA) - The fares of public buses of all types, run or contracted by the state-run Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and the government-run Transport Co., Ltd., will be raised later this month.
Thai Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith confirmed on Thursday that the fares of the public buses of all types will be increased as of April 22.
Arkhom told journalists that the increase in the fares of the public buses, covering interprovincial buses, complies with a resolution in mid-December 2018 of a central committee on land transport control, aimed to boost the financial status and services of both the BMTA and the Transport Co., Ltd.
Based on the official resolution, the fares of the public buses of all types in Greater Bangkok, run or contracted by the BMTA, will be raised by about 1.5-2.0 baht per passenger per trip, while the fares of interprovincial buses, run by the Transport Co., Ltd., will be increased proportionally in according to the distance per trip of a passenger.
