India's Ramraj Cotton Opens Outlet In Malaysia's Seremban

By Razali Pilus SEREMBAN (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia), Jan 8 (Bernama) -- India’s fashion and lifestyle store Ramraj Cotton is expanding into Malaysia by opening its first outlet here through Malaysia’s Oscar Bridge (M) Sdn. Oscar Bridge Chairman E. Yohavel said Oscar Bridge is the sole distributor of Ramraj Cotton’s premium cotton and linen fabrics in Malaysia and has invested US$501,548 (RM2 million) to open the outlet here. "Oscar Bridge has acquired the franchise right from India to expand the brand in Malaysia, as well as Singapore. We plan to open Oscar Bridge stores in all major cities in the country. "For the first stage this year, besides Seremban, we plan to open another five stores, namely in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Bharu and Klang," he told Bernama after the opening of the Ramraj Cotton store here Sunday by Dewan Negara (Malaysian Senate) Speaker Senator S.A. Vigneswaran. Ramraj Cotton Chairman K.R. Nagarajan was present. Yohavel said Seremban (the capital city of Malaysia's Negeri Sembilan state) is the Ramraj Cotton's 100th outlet and the first outside of India. He said Seremban was chosen as Ramraj Cotton's first store in the country as there were still not many cotton and linen shops in the state capital. “From our survey, we find that many businessmen and politicians are wearing cotton and linen, but they find it hard to find a store that sells the products here. “So, we bring the products to their doorstep. We specialise in the sale of quality cotton and linen to meet the lifestyle of the people at reasonable prices," he said, adding that Ramraj Cotton clothing sold at the store is imported from India, with quality assurance. Set up in 1983, the Chennai-based Ramraj Cotton brand is one of the largest manufacturers, suppliers and exporters of cotton, silk and linen clothing in India. Nagarajan said the company has 99 stores in India with 20,000 workers and an annual turnover of US$501.59 million (RM2 billion). “Our shop in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which was opened in 2008, is popular among Malaysian Indians. In fact, 60 percent of our customers are Malaysian Indians. “So, from this, we know that there is a high demand for our clothing from Malaysians and this sparked my interest to open a Ramraj Cotton outlet in Malaysia,” he said in Tamil and translated into Malay language by Yohavel. “Ramraj Cotton clothing is eco-friendly and its quality meets the discerning taste and condition of Malaysia’s multi-racial society,” he said. -- BERNAMA
