Industry minister chairs vehicle, electrical standards committee meeting

Manama, Oct. 8 (BNA): Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed R. Al Zayani chaired the second committee meeting of Vehicles & Electrical Appliances Efficiency Standards, attended by members of the committee.   The committee discussed the new national and gulf programmes and projects related to energy efficiency such as electric cars projects as well as high efficiency air conditioners project. They also reviewed the most important developments of control programmes under taken by the Directorate of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, in energy efficiency filed such as lighting programmes, home air conditioners, fuel efficiency for vehicles and tires safety. A brief presentation was made about electric vehicles to confirm on the importance of setting specific targets to draw up a national plan for electric vehicles to be approved and then coordinate with the concerned parties to implement the plan. The committee was formed by Cabinet Resolution 2414-2007 and chaired by the Industry Minister and membership of the Electricity & Water Authority and representatives of the General Administration of Traffic, Customs Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
