Industry Minister to promote Thailand as world-class automotive hub

BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) -- Industry Minister Uttama Savanayana has told investors that he is determined to develop Thailand into one of the world’s top automotive production bases. He shared his vision while opening the "Automotive Summit 2017" at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) on June 21. He said that Thailand was already the automotive center of Southeast Asia and was considered as the world’s 12th biggest automotive production base. The country had its big local automotive market. Its automotive industry formed as much as 12% of its gross domestic product and created more than 500,000 jobs, the minister said. Thailand was developing its workers to handle new and green automotive technologies and the movement should be able to turn it into a top automotive production base of the world in the future, he said. Mr Uttama also said Thailand was offering promotional privileges to the manufacturers of robots, electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. The promotional privileges would vary depending on the levels of the manufacturers’ technologies and were aimed at bringing the investors to the Eastern Economic Corridor so that it could become an electric vehicle center.
