Influence Of Halal Cosmetics Spreads To The West

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) – Halal cosmetics are slowly influencing the west, if current demand trends are anything to go by. Managing Director, UBM Asia (ASEAN Business), M. Gandhi said the focus is also on Asian products with natural and organic ingredients, particularly for anti-aging. “Halal cosmetics are becoming increasingly mainstream and the potential of this segment of beauty products continues to grow at an increasing rate in the market,” he added. He said this at the opening ceremony of the Malaysia International Beauty Show (Beautyexpo17) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), here Friday. Gandhi said demand for halal cosmetics concerned various segments of the population and regardless of their religious orientation, which was due to the underlying health benefits, animal cruelty-free production methods and clean ingredients used. In consideration of this industry shift, he said the expo featured six dedicated zones, namely beauty salons, hair salons, make-up and education, nail salons, health and wellness, as well as halal and bumiputera cosmetics. “This Expo is growing from strength to strength and is a platform for professional development, and understandably provides a networking opportunity for beauty professionals in the country,” Gandhi added. The Beauty Expo 2015, from today until Oct 9, is expected to attract 20,000 visitors with the participation of 200 companies from 26 countries, including South Korea, Japan, China and Singapore. -- BERNAMA
