Iran’s first locomotive production plant inaugurated

TEHRAN,July 18(MNA) – The first specialized locomotive production plant in Iran was inaugurated in Alborz Province, northwest Iran, on Tuesday.
The plant is projected to manufacture 120 locomotives each year.
“Some €480 million plus one trillion rials have been invested in the project, which aims to create 750 direct jobs and 3000 indirect jobs,” the Fars News Agency quoted the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Managing Director Abdol-Ali Saheb-Mohammadi as saying.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended the inauguration ceremony.
In March 2011, Iran unveiled a locomotive which runs on a domestically-made heavy diesel engine.
The achievement put Iran among the top 12 countries in the world which possess the technology to produce heavy diesel engines, according to Ahmadinejad.
