Iran, Secretariat of BRS Conventions sign document

Tehran, Dec. 3, IRNA – Iran and Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) Conventions on Saturday signed a document about establishment of the Basel regional center in Tehran. The document was signed in presence of the Executive Secretary of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention Secretariat Rolph Antoine Payet and head of the Department of Environment (DoE) Masoomeh Ebtekar. Payet said in a statement he delivered to the ceremony that said based on estimates, Iran will implement mandates of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions regarding hazardous chemicals and wastes. 'Of course, I do know that it is difficult but I should congratulate Iran for success in doing the job. Of course, Iran yet to pay due attention to the environment protection, rather take human health into account as well. Major part of the activity is related to transport of hazardous wastes, that I hope it will accomplish through cooperation.' 1378/IRNA
