IRB CEO Appointed CATA President

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Jan 5 (Bernama) -- The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) chief executive officer Sabin Samitah has been appointed as President of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) for the 2015-2018 term. The appointment was effective Dec 12, 2016. IRB in a statement Thursday said the appointment was a recognition of the Commonwealth countries to Malaysia and IRB specifically on its contribution to the development and modernisation of the tax system. "Malaysia is viewed as capable of bringing the association to the next phase in addressing international taxation issues which are gaining attention at the global level. "The appointment also recognises Malaysia's voice in the international arena," it said. The IRB said Malaysia is the 12th CATA President since its establishment in 1979. CATA is the largest international organisation of tax administrators from 47 Commonwealth countries, and also plays an important role in promoting and modernising the taxation administration. -- BERNAMA
