JBIC to support train project in Thailand

BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) -- The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is ready to provide low-interest loans to finance companies investing in a high-speed train project linking three of Thailand’s major airports and the Eastern Economic Corridor project. JBIC’s CEO and Executive Managing Director Tadashi Maeda met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak on Thursday to follow up after JBIC has indicated its interest in EEC development project which spans over the eastern provinces of Chachoengsao, Chon Buri and Rayong. Mr Somkid said he informed JBIC of the progress in pushing forward the high-speed rail project to link Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport and U-tapao Airport. Mr Maeda reaffirmed JBIC’s readiness to provide loans for any private companies winning the future bidding for the railway development project, Mr Somkid revealed. Mr Somkid said he also discussed about other potential economic cooperation between Thailand and Japan such as Indo-Pacific highway. (TNA)
