Jetro Introduces More Than 50 New Japanese Food Products

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) has introduced more than 50 new Japanese food and ingredients for the Malaysian market via 'Showcase by Japanese Food Companies' here Wednesday. Its executive vice-president, Satoshi Shimomura said among the products showcased by 20 Japanese companies were processed seafood, seasoning, noodles, green tea products, sweets and drink. In addition, he said, as the Japanese food products had taken root in Malaysia, the export of Japanese agricultural, forestry and fishery goods had increased gradually. "In the Klang Valley (an area in Malaysia which is centered in Kuala Lumpur, and includes its adjoining cities and towns in the state of Selangor), there are 620 Japanese restaurants, including specialised restaurants which sell particular products such as sushi, tempura and ramen, and the demand from the locals is increasing. "Besides promoting our latest products here, we also hope to continue our mission towards the strong relation of trade between Malaysia and Japan," he said in his speech during the showcase held at the Japanese Ambassador's Residence here Wednesday. Also present were Japan's Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Makio Miyagawa and Japan's Economy and Fiscal Policy Minister, Nobuteru Ishihara. -- BERNAMA
