King Rama X coin to debut on April 6

BANGKOK, March 28 (TNA) – The Treasury Department will put a new set of coins, featuring a portrait of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn into circulation on April 6, the Chakri Memorial Day, said Finance Minister Apisak Tantiworawong The new coins are produced in nine denominations – 10 baht , 5 baht , 2 baht and 1 baht as well as 50 satang, 25 satang, 10 satang, 5 satang and 1 satang. The denominations less than 25 satang will be used for accounting purposes and will not be put into circulations. The existing coins, bearing the portrait of the late King Rama IX will remain in circulation and can be used along with the new coin. The minister said it is projected that the use of banknotes and coins will decline in the future in the future due to the introduction of the E-payment system. The new payment system, adopted by state agencies saves the budget of about 10 billion baht. Together with the E-payment services used by the public sector, it can save tens of billions of baht from producing circulating banknotes and coins. (TNA)
