KPJ Healthcare Aims To Attract Medical Tourists From Indonesia

JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- KPJ Healthcare Bhd will continue to focus on Indonesia’s Riau Islands in attracting more foreign medical tourists to its newest hospital, KPJ Bandar Dato’ Onn. President and managing director Amiruddin Abdul Satar said this was because the islands were highly populated, with 1.2 million people living in Batam alone, and the direct connectivity between it and Johor was also a pull factor. “As such, we will continue to focus on this market, and also hope to attract locals living within the area (Bandar Dato’ Onn) and other districts such as Ayer Hitam and Sedenak,” he told reporters after attending the Quran recitation and wellbeing prayers in conjunction with the opening of the new hospital here Tuesday. Amiruddin said the KPJ Johor Specialist Centre received no less than 800 Indonesian patients monthly, thus enhancing the group’s confidence. He said KPJ Bandar Dato’ Onn was the group’s sixth hospital in Johor, in addition to KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital, KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital, KPJ Johor Hospital Pakar, KPJ Kluang Specialist Hospital and KPJ Bandar Maharani Specialist Hospital, and would strengthen the group’s position in the southern region. The RM250 million, 10-storey hospital stands on 5.34 hectare land, and is the group’s 26th hospital nationwide. It offers 30 beds for a start and this would be increased to 150 in stages. The hospital offers five core services - orthopaedic, geriatric, oncology, cardiology as well as a treatment centre for women and children. -- BERNAMA
