Malaysia, Guangzhou Trade Hits US$18.26 Bln In First Nine Months Of 2014
Guangzhou (China), Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia remains the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou's top trading partner in Asean, with the trade volume between both sides amounting to US$18.26 billion in the first nine months of the year.
However, the two-way trade dropped by 4.4 per cent from the same period last year, said the deputy director general of the port administrative office of Guangdong province, Wu Jun.
Wu said in the same period, Guangzhou's exports to Malaysia rose 13.1 per cent year-on-year (yoy) to US$6.58 billion, while imports from Malaysia dropped by 12 per cent yoy to US$11.68 billion.
"The main export items from Malaysia were commodity products such as rubber and palm oil, while items exported from Guangzhou included electronic products, household items and consumer goods," he said.
He was speaking to journalists here on Tuesday.
Wu said last year, bilateral trade between Malaysia and Guangzhou was at US$26.8 billion, surging 24.1 per cent from 2012.
The trade volume between Asean and Guangzhou stood at US$79.3 billion from January-September this year, up 7.7 per cent yoy.
In 2013, trade between Asean and Guangzhou totalled US$102.22 billion, rising 10.7 per cent yoy.
