Malaysia: MITI Vows To Help Local Designers Export Products Worldwide

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) – Malaysia's Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has vowed to help local design industry players export and market their products through its 75 offices worldwide. “As long as the industry players continue to create products with good design, MITI will use all its networks to help the players sell them around the world,” said MITI Secretary-General Isham Ishak. He said this when opening the Malaysia Good Design Award (MGDA) 2017/2018 Ceremony on behalf of MITI Minister Darell Leiking here, Tuesday night. Meanwhile, in the text of his speech delivered by Isham, Leiking urged the local designers to stay competitive with international product brands to make greater contribution to Malaysia’s economy. “For example, Thailand’s creative industry contributed US$49 billion (US$1=RM4.18) to the country’s total gross domestic product in 2014. “The design sector was the country’s second largest creative industry, holding a 23 per cent share of the total nominal value of the creative industries,” he said. In other words, the design industry was able to contribute to the economic growth, and thus also known as designomics, he added. -- BERNAMA
